Battleship Cove - Information
Battleship Cove is a popular maritime museum located in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is home to five historic World War II-era vessels. Visitors can tour the submarine USS Lionfish, the PT-617 boat, the battleships USS Massachusetts and USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., and the Soviet-built missile corvette Hiddensee.
The USS Massachusetts was launched in 1941 and served in World War II, participating in the Solomon Islands Campaign and the Battle of Okinawa. It was decommissioned in 1947 and later brought to Battleship Cove in 1965. The USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was named after the elder brother of President John F. Kennedy, who was killed in World War II. It was launched in 1944 and served during the Korean War before being decommissioned in 1956. The submarine USS Lionfish served during World War II and the Korean War before being decommissioned in 1971.
In addition to the historic vessels, Battleship Cove also has exhibits on naval history and technology, as well as a memorial plaza dedicated to veterans of all branches of the U.S. military. Visitors can take guided tours or explore the museum on their own.Battleship Cove is open daily from 9am to 5pm, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Admission fees vary depending on age and type of tour. Veterans and active military members receive free admission.
