Gare d'Austerlitz is a major train station in Paris, situated in the 13th arrondissement. It was originally opened in 1840 as one of the city's first railway stations, serving as a terminus for trains coming from the south of France. Today, it serves both regional and national trains as well as international connections to Germany and Spain. The station is named after the Battle of Austerlitz, one of Napoleon's greatest victories, which took place in 1805 in what is now the Czech Republic. In fact, the station was originally called Gare d'Orléans, but was renamed in 1852 in honor of the battle. The exterior of the station features a large statue of an eagle, a symbol of Napoleon's empire.

One of the most interesting features of the station is the Musée d'Orsay, located on the upper level. This museum showcases a collection of historic train cars, including some of the earliest locomotives that ran in France. In addition to the museum, the station also has a number of shops, cafes, and restaurants for travelers to enjoy. For tourists using Gare d'Austerlitz, it is important to note that the station is located on the left side of the Seine River, just a short walk from the Jardin des Plantes and the National Museum of Natural History. There is also a metro station located within the train station, with easy connections to other areas of Paris.
