Bloomington - Information
Bloomington, Minnesota, is a vibrant city located in Hennepin County in the United States. It has a population of over 85,000 people and is located just 10 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. Bloomington is rich in history, dating back to the 1800s when the first settlers arrived. In the late 19th century, Bloomington was primarily known for its dairy farms and was named after Bloomington, Illinois. The city’s economy was further diversified in the 20th century with the opening of the nearby Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, which has become one of the busiest airports in the country.
The Mall of America is the largest mall in the United States. With over 500 stores, an indoor amusement park, an aquarium, and several restaurants, it attracts over 40 million visitors per year. The mall features four floors and is so large that it could fit seven Yankee Stadiums inside of it. The Pond House, built in 1862 by the first European settlers in the area, is now part of the Normandale Lake Park and offers tours to visitors who are interested in learning about the city’s early history. Moreover, Bloomington boasts a vibrant arts scene and is home to the Bloomington Center for the Arts. The center hosts numerous events and performances throughout the year and is a great place to experience local art and culture.
Nature lovers will appreciate visiting the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge with its excellent hiking, biking, and birdwatching opportunities. The refuge is home to over 200 species of birds, including bald eagles, and is a great place to experience nature in the heart of the city.
