Side - Information
Side is a beautiful seaside resort located on the southern coast of Turkey. In ancient times, Side was an important port city for the Roman Empire and is today a popular tourist destination for those who want to explore the rich history of the region. One of the most prominent historical sites in Side is the ancient Roman theater. Built in the 2nd century AD, the theater once held up to 15,000 spectators and still hosts performances and concerts today. Another significant site is the Temple of Apollo, built in the 2nd century BC and regarded as one of the most impressive ancient temples in Turkey.
Visitors to Side can also explore the well-preserved ruins of the city's Agora, or marketplace, which dates back to the 2nd century AD. The Agora was the center of commercial and political activity in Side, and today travelers can wander the ancient streets and view the many well-preserved buildings and sculptures. For those interested in Ottoman history, Side also houses a beautiful 13th-century mosque, the Selimiye Mosque. Sightseers should note that the mosque is still in use, so proper attire is required when visiting.
