Antalya, a city located on the Mediterranean coast in southwestern Turkey, is a popular travel destination for its historical significance and natural beauty. This bustling city is also known as the Turkish Riviera, due to its crystal-clear waters and beautiful sandy beaches. Antalya has a rich history dating back to the Roman times. Founded by King Attalus II of Pergamon, the city has seen various civilizations leave their mark throughout the centuries. The Old Town, known as Kaleiçi, is one of the most popular tourist attractions. This well-preserved historical area is surrounded by ancient city walls and features narrow cobblestone streets and Ottoman-era buildings.
The Antalya Museum offers an impressive collection of archaeological artifacts from the Paleolithic to the Ottoman period. The museum's exhibits include statues, ancient coins, and mosaics, which will take you on a journey through the city’s rich history. More so, the city features many notable historic sites and landmarks such as Hadrian's Gate, which dates back to the Roman period; Yivli Minaret Mosque, a 13th-century mosque with a unique fluted minaret; and the Termessos Ruins, a fascinating ancient city which was built at an altitude of 3,559 feet.
The Düden Waterfalls are another fascinating natural attraction in Antalya. The upper waterfall is located in the northeast of the city and drops from a height of 115 feet. The lower waterfall is located in the south and falls into the Mediterranean Sea. Antalya is a city with a rich history and culture, offering an unforgettable experience to its visitors. From ancient ruins to breathtaking waterfalls and pristine beaches, Antalya has something to offer everyone.
