Ko Phi Phi is a group of islands located in the Andaman Sea, about 46 km from the province of Krabi in southern Thailand. The archipelago consists of six islands, of which the two largest and most famous are Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh. Koh Phi Phi Don is the only inhabited island and is surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs, coral reefs, and turquoise waters. Ko Phi Phi has a rich history. It played an essential role as a stopover point during the trade route between India and China. It later became a shelter for pirates in the 18th century. The island was severely affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which destroyed infrastructure and killed hundreds of people. Apart from its rich history, Ko Phi Phi is also known for its vibrant nightlife and beaches. The famous Maya Bay, located on Koh Phi Phi Leh, became popular after the movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed there in 1999. Its stunning sandy beach is surrounded by towering cliffs, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling, diving, and sunbathing. Koh Phi Phi Don offers a variety of accommodation, ranging from luxury resorts to budget-friendly backpacker hostels. The island also boasts a variety of activities like rock climbing, jungle trekking, and kayaking. For tourists who want to experience local culture, there’s a night market that sells local delicacies such as Pad Thai, grilled meats, and fried insects.
