Nerja is a beautiful coastal town located in the province of Malaga in Andalusia, Spain. This picturesque town is situated on the Mediterranean and is known for its sandy beaches, clear water, and small coves. Nerja has a rich history that dates back more than 2,000 years. The Phoenicians, Greeks and the Romans all passed through the town and it was during the Roman Empire that the town's economy thrived, producing olive oil and wine.
Nerja is famous for its highly popular tourist attraction, Caves of Nerja. These caves are located just outside the town center and are one of the most visited tourist attractions in Spain. The caves were formed over 5 million years ago and are home to incredible stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient cave paintings which have been preserved for centuries. Open to the public, visitors can take guided tours to learn about the history and geology of the caves.
Aside from the Caves of Nerja, the town has other great attractions for visitors to enjoy. The Balcon de Europa is a viewpoint built on a cliff-top promenade that offers breathtaking views over the Mediterranean. It is a great spot for taking a stroll and watching the beautiful sunset. In addition, there are also some lovely beaches like Burriana and Calahonda, which are ideal for relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming.
