Gijón, also known as Xixón in Asturian, is a coastal city located in the northern region of Spain, in the province of Asturias. With a rich history that dates back to the Roman Empire, Gijón is a vibrant city with a unique blend of modern and traditional culture. In ancient times, Gijón was known as Gigia, and it became an important port for the Roman Empire during the 1st century AD. Later on, in the Middle Ages, it was conquered by the Kingdom of Asturias, and it became a key commercial center for the region.
