Fes is a city in northern Morocco and is frequently referred to as the cultural and spiritual capital of the country. Founded in the 9th century, it boasts a rich history, exquisite architecture, and vibrant culture that make it an alluring destination in the country. The city’s most famous attraction is the Fes el Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to the world’s largest car-free urban area. Wander through its winding alleyways and explore its ancient buildings, including the 14th-century Bou Inania Madrasa and the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, one of the world's oldest educational institutions. The festival features traditional Sufi music and dance performances, as well as lectures and workshops on Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam.

Fes is also famous for its culinary delights. Try a hearty bowl of harira soup or pastilla, a savory and sweet pastry stuffed with pigeon meat and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. For a more modern take on Moroccan cuisine, check out Boujloud Square in the Ville Nouvelle quarter, where food trucks and street vendors serve up international fare alongside traditional dishes.
