Lens is a city in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France, located about 200 km north of Paris. The city is situated in the Pas-de-Calais department, in the heart of a mining area. Historically, Lens was a coal-mining town and played a significant role in the development of the regional economy. Today, Lens is known for its cultural attractions, including the Louvre-Lens museum, as well as for its scenic countryside. The Louvre-Lens museum is a major cultural attraction in the city, opened in 2012. The museum brings together an impressive collection of artwork from the Louvre museum in Paris, ranging from prehistoric times to the 19th century. The architecture of the museum is also noteworthy, designed by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa.
