Ischgl is a popular ski resort village located in the Paznaun Valley, in the Austrian state of Tyrol, in the Paznaun district. This charming alpine town is nestled between the Silvretta and Verwall mountain ranges, offering breathtaking views all year round.
Ischgl is known for its fantastic ski slopes, top-notch infrastructure, and lively après-ski scene, attracting thousands of tourists every year. Apart from skiing, the village is also famous for its stunning architecture and rich cultural heritage. It has a long-standing tradition, dating back to the Middle Ages when the town was a hub for mining and agriculture.
During World War II, Ischgl was transformed into a military zone, and when the war ended, the American and British military continued to use the area for maneuvers. Modern-day Ischgl was formed in the 1960s when the town experienced a radical transformation and became a popular ski destination.
Today, visitors can enjoy 238 kilometers of well-groomed pistes, 45 cable cars and lifts, and an extensive network of cross-country skiing trails. Ischgl's ski season usually runs from late November until early May, making it one of Austria's longest ski seasons.
Apart from skiing, visitors can indulge in various other activities, such as ice-skating, tobogganing, paragliding, and snowshoeing. The village also offers excellent dining options ranging from high-end restaurants to traditional Austrian taverns and bars.
